I am a new mom. I am guilty of doing many a things that new moms are told not to do, like get a bad haircut. I did this. Actually, I did this 3 times before I went to see Lisa Black and begged her to fix me. And fix me (well, my hair) she did.
There are few people in this world that can give a woman a really great, flattering, super short hair cut without making her look like some shade of Kate Gosselin. Lisa Black can do this and then some. She can also hit you with the smelly stuff (a.k.a. great hair product) and make you feel fancy for under $50.
P.S. She's also a saint. She's part of the Old Dog Haven - something everyone should check out

I have gone way too long without a haircut. Lisa listened to my likes and dislikes about my hair--and did a beautiful job! I am really happy with the new shorter, healthier cut! I also LOVE the product she recommended for my curly mop. Will be back again!

I got a haircut on the weekend in Kirkland and was absolutely devastated by how it turned out. With Thanksgiving approaching fast I was desperate to find someone who could at least try to fix the damage. After seeing the reviews for Stardust I decided to give it a shot and sent Lisa an email to schedule an appointment. She was able to fit me in that afternoon right after I got off work and after telling her what I wanted VS what I got at the other salon, she accepted the challenge and went to work.
Ultimately my hair's just a little shorter than how I'd normally want it, but that's no fault of Lisa's. She was able to take the mess that the other salon did and turn it into something much more presentable and manageable. I'm very satisfied with my haircut and look forward to coming back to see Lisa when I need a normal trim and not trying to fix someone else's mistake!

Lisa is a great stylist. She never disappoints. I always get compliments after seeing her, and she really listens to what you want.
Solomon, her Old Dog Haven dog is a gentleman and just completes the salon's friendly atmosphere.
Parking is plentiful!

I have only really used Yelp to read reviews but now I feel compelled to write my first one. Lisa is awesome. I never leave the salon unhappy or unsure of my cut/color. My hair looks shiny (even after bleaching and coloring) and my cut looks great for weeks. Super cute salon with an even cuter dog Solomon who greets you at the door.

WARNING. THIS REVIEW IS RECYCLED FROM MY REVIEW OF DELUXE HAIR IN 2006. ALSO, THIS SENTENCE, PLUS THE PREVIOUS TWO, ARE IN ALL UPPERCASE. THANK YOU. -- MGMT
This is the story of a boy and his hair and the woman who removed from his head the hair oh god oh GOD I can't start it like this. Let me try again.
This is the story of a boy hahahahalaalkfjaslkLKSAGHAS:gAKHG OH OMYAGJAKLG okay, there was a piece of fuzz touching my toe and I TOTALLY thought it was a spider. Whew. I'm okay. It's all right. I'm okay. Wow.
This is the story of a boy and his hair. The boy has very curly hair. Very, very curly and wild hair that pretty much defies the laws of physics. In fact, imagine Einstein's hair. Actually, take a few hits of acid, watch two episodes of 'Everybody Hates Raymond', and then imagine Einstein's hair. That's like the boy's hair. It requires a specialist, a specialist of the highest calibre. Or caliber. Whatever works for you.
Lisa, dog-lover extraordinaire, did not flinch in horror as most people do at this boy's wild, unkempt hair. She, instead, attacked it most gently oh for the sake of Jack Bauer. I can't go on like this and neither can you. I can't do this to you. My dear, fellow Yelplings, we've come so far together, we've gone to the tops of the highest mountains, to the depths of the deepest seas... wait. I'm quoting Depeche Mode lyrics here... and badly, at that. I swear, I haven't worn Z Cavaricci pants since 1988. Possibly 1989.
Stop thinking about my pants. What matters here is that Lisa kicks an unreasonable amount of ass. She has a great little place with engaging personality, she sometimes blasts Ella Fitzgerald singing Christmas songs (and, yes, this was about two days before Christmas), and has an awesome dog wandering around. On top of that, Lisa can talk New Orleans cuisine like no other. Probably because she's from New Orleans. She even knew my favorite restaurant. $500 to the first person who can guess what my favorite restaurant is. Send your answers to [e-mail address removed by court order].
What's most important is that she's unbelievably good and asks a fraction of the price of some other people at so-called 'hip' places would. There's something noble about it.
I can't recommend her enough.
UPDATE: She's so good that I've been living in the Bay Area for a couple of months now and I just so happen to be flying back to Seattle on business next week so I'm waiting to get my hair cut by her.
TRUST.

For you, Lisa - Because, well we all know, YOU ROCK! - Michael
What can I say, I Love Lisa. She is so damn nice, works with you and doesnt tell you, "yea that will look good". Actually she has said to me...ummm, Michael that might look like a mullet! Honesty is what I love. If you want that "salon experience" this is not the place. If you want a no nonsense, get your hair cut, have a great conversation and not get ripped off, GO to Lisa!!

I wasn't expecting much when I walked into this tiny little salon for a walk-in trim. The stylist was very friendly and welcoming and made sure she understood what I wanted before she started to chop. It was a no-frills experience; basic shampoo and conditioning service and simple blow-out afterwards. But she did a great job with my trim and made my normally thin-looking hair look full and thick at the ends. I was expecting mate $20 for the trim since I only had about an inch cut off, so I was a little shocked when she told me the total was $32! Had I known that going in I probably would have picked a different salon, but I was in desperate need of some hair love ad didn't feel like price shopping. Overall, great experience and I will probably go back for a real cut next time.

Lisa is great, great, great with curly hair, frizzy hair, problem hair. She listens. She's kind. She's down to earth and grounded. Her prices are incredibly reasonable. Most importantly, she will give you a great hair cut. I lost her for a few years, when she changed salons, and I'm so grateful to have found her again at Stardust. Lisa rocks!
