I just had the most odd experience at Wind Hair Salon. I usually go to another salon on the block but tried them first last week when my usual salon was closed for the Chinese new year. I had a pleasurable experience the first time so thought I’d go again. I especially loved the wash and massage but this time was so odd. First - the owner thought I was someone else who owed him $ and I reminded him of who I was. Then - I proceeded to show him a picture of how I liked my hair done. I get my hair blow dried / styled very often due to my line of work. And have for a long time. My hair is difficult - fine and a lot of it. But he kept telling me it was too short to be curled. Yet, I get loose curls all the time. It’s 2 inches past my shoulders. A pieced wave / loose curl works for all hair lengths. And the way he was pulling my hair made it feel like pieces were being broken. The whole process took way too long. I left SUPER unhappy yet they charged me full price knowing it was not good. I did not tip because they charged more than last time even. I ended up walking straight to my other salon to get them to fix it. I’m also very confused by the smell in there. The first time I assumed they just had lunch but this time - the smell was looming. My hair smells like it. Just not ideal all around. I feel really bad posting this but also feel like this is a place for mostly men and cuts and a specific type of hair that’s definitely not mine : (

I have never had such a thoughtful, thorough haircut before and I am SO happy with the outcome! I came home and my partner commented that it was the best haircut I've ever had, and I have to agree. I really appreciated how much time and effort he spent on making sure that the cut was suited to my hair and curl/wave pattern – I will absolutely be going back!

I came to Wind because two of my friends got amazing haircuts here and it did not disappoint! I felt so great through the haircut, felt like I was listened to but also, I was looking for a professional opinion and got results even better than I could have hoped for. I showed a picture or two and I can’t believe how close it was to the original thing! I will be recommending this salon to anyone looking for a great haircut.

Nothing but good things to say about the work of this salon. I appreciate how thoughtful and attentive to detail the owner is when cutting my hair. I have very straight, fine hair and the cuts give my hair texture and even some volume. I'm very happy with how my hair looks!

WORST HAIR SALON IVE EVER BEEN TO. THEY TRIED TO CHARGE ME 70 dollars FOR A CONDITIONER TREATMENT AND NOT EVEN A BLOW OUT. They told me it was 20 dollars to get my hair washed. THEYRE MAJOR SCAMMERS DO NOT GO HERE!!!!!! The price on line said 35 THIS PLACE SUCKS!

I stumbled upon Wind Hair Salon through Classpass a few years ago and the haircut Kiji gave me was the best I’d had in 15+ years living in New York. I’ve been going back ever since for cuts and highlights and am always happy with the results. I couldn’t recommend them more highly!

A few months ago i went to a different salon and got a bad haircut. My friend recommended Wind to me. Thank God! Stylist Kiji was able to fix my haircut and now it looks amazing. Im sooo grateful and happy of my new look. If you ever need a haircut fixing, Wind is your place!!! This was totally worth it.

I’m very happy with my haircut. I was not able to really articulate what I wanted (bob? But longer? Layered if possible?) and our communication wasn’t perfect. At times I doubted whether I made the right choice. But all my doubts went away as I saw him get into this deep zone strategizing about and snipping away professionally at my hair. Ultimately I loved the look and for him he said something along the lines of “satisfied with his craft, although if I wanted to experiment with more thinning or shortening he’d be down.” Definitely going back ☺️
Also, if it helps, it was 50 bucks.

I would give six stars if I could! My partner has his hair cut by Kiji and has been recommending him to me for months, so I figured it was time to give it a try. I HATE getting my hair cut, to the point where I just don't do. I have a great colorist, but I've been hesitant to cut my hair for years aside from a trim. However, because of this, my hair shape is limp and lifeless. Kiji is super friendly and warm, and he was so thorough in asking what I wanted. In spite of my indecisiveness and lack of ability to articulate a clear definition of what I was looking for, he somehow figured it out anyway and gave me the best haircut I have had in maybe 10 years. He showed me different pictures and styles and actually took the time to ask me how I typically style my hair and how often, and took the time to see my hair's natural texture so that the cut would work with both a blowout and a more natural dry. I will be back and my bf was right - I can't recommend Kiji enough!!!!
Another thing - the prices here are super reasonable. I have haircuts more than double the price and left severely disappointed. I had a wonderful experience here and it was worth every penny.

I was a walk-in with some pictures of what I always wanted for a cut but never could quite get. Kiji was AMAZING!!! He took my idea and made it better!! He also collaborated with me - he had made the back look gorgeous but I wanted a buzz cut - no worries, he said, and did a buzz cut as beautiful as his short cut. The man is a genius. Because of that I insisted on paying more than what the going rate was. I got an expensive cut for way less and the time and skill he brought to the style was priceless. Thank you, Kiji!!

I was visiting from Oakland for my brother's wedding and looking for a place to get a trim/clean-up before the festivities. We were staying near the East Village and I found this place on google maps. There was only 1 gentleman working and I'm not sure if he was Kiji; I was the only one there after he finished with the lady ahead of me and he spent a good half hour cutting to my desired preferences while offering his insights on how he thought to make my cut nicer. I was being really particular as my hairline is receding above my temples, but he has great technique and patience and I walked away with arguably the best haircut I've had in years. For $35 a cut, I wish he worked where I live! It was also fun chatting with him about Hong Kong, Vancouver, and Taiwan. I would absolutely come back to get my hair cut again next time I'm in town.

I called last minute, and they squeezed me in. I didn't need to get my hair washed, just a cut. Wind Hair Salon is reasonably priced unlike other hair salons in East Village or elsewhere. $45 for a haircut (no wash). Very friendly hairdressers who consulted with each other about the style I requested. I loved that teamwork vibe, which created a friendly and relaxing atmosphere. They cut my hair short in a way that maintained and accentuated my subtle waves. I will go back again for my next cut. They're the best.

Omg this place is so affordable and my haircut came out amazing. I've paid so much more for the same result or worse. I was headed to the salon next door when I noticed this one and their prices were so reasonable. The lady that helped me was so sweet. She really ate and left no crumbs. She gave me the exact cut I showed her. When washing my hair, she was so thorough and even gave multiple head massages!! You can tell they care a lot about their business. They were so humble and insisted on no need for me to tip. Support poc businesses like this.!

Wonderful salon with very friendly and skilled staff. Price is very reasonable for a salon near the area and for the amount of time they devote to you! Definitely my favorite salon experience in my 7 years in the area. Would highly recommend to anyone. They do both male and female haircuts! Owned by a lovely couple as well!

Ok I never write reviews but when I saw an offensive review here (dude I don't think you were hearing Mandarin) I had to jump in! I was looking for a new salon several months ago as my go-to closed. Kiji cut my young-adult daughter's hair and later I went in to have my own cut. What set Kiji apart was the care he took to understand both the current state of our hair (two versions of hot mess) and what we wanted done. He was extremely solicitous and sweet, the atmosphere in the salon quiet and relaxing, and both my daughter and I were 100% happy with our great-looking cuts. I've already recommended the salon to others and will be going back myself. Five stars for skilled luxury service at an affordable price!

ok i never write reviews but this is the WORST hair experience i've ever had. DONT COME HERE. i got partial highlights and they made my hair fall out. this has never happened to me, especially for PARTIAL highlights. i've had my hair bleached for 5 years now. i've had more intense bleaching sessions and i've never had my hair fall out like that. like clumps of my hair were falling out. my hair is soo thin now. they were brushing my wet bleached hair with no product and i even asked if they could put something in and they didn't. my hair looks so fried. i am so angry.
also, the man was so rude/ speaking in high volumes at the women workers in mandarin i was like please lower your voice we're indoors. he also was trying to tell me how to take care of my hair like dude you messed up my hair even more!!! don't give me your condescending input. i would give zero stars if i could. i regret coming here because now i have to spend the next months trying to get my hair thickness back.
