This review is to WARN you about the air quality and excessive smell of PERM CHEMICALS at this place.
During my recent three-hour service, I was subjected to strong chemical fumes, likely from the numerous perm services being performed.
These fumes from perm services caused significant irritation to my eyes and nose, not to mention a headache.
The excessive chemical fumes and lack of proper ventilation are alarming!

i had such a time trying to find a hairstylist i trust in san francisco. i’ve been wanting a Korean perm for a couple of months and I spent so much time looking for a hairstylist who could give me what I wanted and I happen to stumble upon avanti. she knew exactly what I wanted and after a brief consultation, we got the process started. I am so happy with the way my hair turned out. I think it looks absolutely beautiful and better than I expected. I would highly recommend avanti to anybody who is interested in a Korean perm.

Avan did an amazing job on cutting my hair. Not only did she make sure to listen but when I was unsure she did her best to communicate with me the options. Also she was incredibly nice and welcoming. 100 percent would recommend you book her.

Went to Avan for the first time after 2 friend recommendations and was not disappointed!! I came in not exactly knowing what I wanted since I was hoping for a little bit of consulting and everything went amazing.
Compared to asian hair types, my hair is rather thinner, and wavy.
Throughout the entire process, she made sure to check in with me with my preferences and gave recommendations on what suited my face shape the best. I love how detailed and intentional she was when it came to styling by showing me how I could recreate it at home.
Overall one of the best cuts I’ve gotten in the city and I will not hesitate coming back!!

Avan is an excellent stylist with deep expertise in permed hair. I found her on IG and booked a trim for my 7-month-old grown-out perm. She shared easy styling tips to keep my hair looking natural and healthy and gave me a plan for future cuts to maintain and transition my perm. Her advice was invaluable, especially since I was unsure how to care for my hair. The salon has a chill, inviting vibe, and the plants add a relaxing touch. Highly recommend!

Mai has been my hairstylist for a couple years now ever since I moved to SF! When going into get my haircut sometimes I have a vision of what I want and she is able to bring the vision to life! She takes her time and is meticulous with her work! If you ever need a haircut and dont have a vision in mind, Mai will guide you through the process and have you coming out looking and feeling good :D

This was my first time at Camellia Hair Salon and I enjoyed the experience and service immensely! They normally take appointments but I got lucky with a walk-in on a Saturday. Mai was my stylist and she was super sweet and wonderful to chat with. I got a normal haircut and showed her a few reference photos, consulted with her about what I was looking for in style and the finished look was spot on to my liking! She was meticulous and unhurried throughout the process, paying great attention to detail while cutting. I definitely will be coming back for future haircuts and color treatments with her!!

Camellia hair salon is the best! Great environment, amazing stylists, and top notch service. I've been seeing Natalia for 6 years, she is the best for hair color and styling. Highly recommend! She is an expert for blondes, great personality and so fun to be around. The salon is very clean and everyone is so nice. Perfect location on Fillmore Street (and close to Japantown) with tons of shopping and restaurants around.

I recently had the pleasure of getting a haircut, hair care treatment, and hair polishing service from Gurgen. His professionalism was outstanding, and he went above and beyond to ensure I was comfortable throughout the entire process. What truly impressed me was his kindness and patience with my child. He played with her and calmed her down, creating a pleasant and stress-free environment. Gurgen is not only a skilled professional but also a wonderful and kind-hearted person. Highly recommend!

Yukina has been my hairstylist for more than 10 years, and she's been proven to be a great one, and she always learns to do new things/techniques. She is patient, listens to her clients, and comes up with ideas. The way she washes, cuts, treats, blow dries, are gentle and professional. The shoulder and neck massage during washing hair and after blow drying, is an excellent service to top off the service, and it is good.
I've had my hair cut, styled, treated (Japanese perm), and the latest was a keratin treatment. All were excellent! I am so happy now she has her own hair salon (she deserves it), a nice one, and she is surrounded by a team of professionals. George is one of them, and he is the expert of keratin treatment.

Where do I even begin? Yukina has been my hairstylist for years and years. Yukina is such a professional that she makes cutting hair seems soo easy! She's such a perfectionist and I never left her salon feeling unsatisfied. I love doing different hairstyles and Yukina always delivered them exactly how I envisioned or even better! She would give her recommendations on what may work or how to make it "work". She really cares about your look and the way you feel. It's just so hard now that I have moved to LA these past 4 years and couldn't make it as often as I should've been. But I never went to a different hairstylist coz there's none like Yukina. She is a gem-just like her salon

Incredibly relaxing salon experience that is also so clean and beautifully appointed. Shelly is a stylist there with years of experience. She listens to her customers and helps them obtain the desired hair style. She is also very experienced in color. The owner of the salon is present and such a wonderful person. Yukina is probably the best stylist I've ever worked with!!
Her new salon is extremely chic and peaceful; located on Fillmore, it's very close to the Japan Center and lots of underground paid parking.
She books ample time for each cutting which I appreciate. I have very thick hair with a slippery texture which means it takes forever to thin out. She gave my hair a ton of attention, resulting in the shaggy lob of my dreams! I've asked for this type of cut before and it didn't look nearly as good as what Yukina did for me today.
Will continue to recommend her to everyone I know!

Excellent haircut with superior attention to detail.
Yukina has style, skills and precision to tackle even the most challenging hair. This is the best haircut I have ever had after decades of bouncing around San Francisco salons. Even the scissors feel like they're of exceptional quality.
The location is super convenient on Fillmore so it's easy to grab lunch or a drink after my haircut.
